Capital Health is the largest healthcare district in Nova Scotia. In 2008 we undertook a project to merge Cancer Centre patient registrations with the hospital’s enterprise patient registration system. A key objective of this project was improving patient care. The project team decided to use an enterprise data management tool called eIndex to create a Master Patient Index (MPI) and assist in resolving patient duplicates.

The project team had no prior experience with eIndex. And we had no prior experience with the world of matching algorithms, assigned weights and matching thresholds. Fortunately NextGate Solutions came to our rescue. On very short notice NextGate was able to identify our needs and put a plan in place for meeting them. NextGate was able to work with Capital’s epidemiologists to tailor the matching algorithm to meet our needs, and provide the team with guidance in assigning weights and establishing thresholds. NextGate delivered multiple training sessions remotely for both functional and technical team members. NextGate technical personnel were onsite to assist during our project Go Live and subsequently provide post implementation support.

The project was a great success. Our customer, the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre was very pleased with the outcomes.  eIndex has been performing flawlessly for Capital Health since implementation. Capital Health continues to partner with NextGate for their knowledge and guidance as we work to enhance our solution.

NextGate’s team was instrumental in implementing Sun’s Java CAPS and eIndex 5.0 to manage the flow of patient information into our Electronic Medical Record system. When planning the complex task of implementing an EMPI (eIndex), we turned to NextGate for their expertise and experience. Their team managed the project seamlessly from beginning to end.  Their pattern analyzing tool thoroughly cleansed the data and populated the database in record time. What normally would have taken weeks to complete, took only a few hours.

To further enhance our EMPI, NextGate implemented a customized GUI along with a web-based Downtime Registration System (DRS). The DRS can actively query the EMPI for patient information while leveraging its strong search capabilities and eliminating the use of paper tracking.  We recently used this system during a major upgrade to our registration application, and we were pleased with the results.
