UAB Medicine Launches NextGate’s Provider & Organization Registry to Reconcile and Manage Cross-Community Provider Data

Academic Health Center Leverages Automation, Data Integration Capabilities to Reconcile and Manage Provider Information across Multiple Systems and Sources

BIRMINGHAM, Alab. and PASADENA, Calif. – October 5, 2016 – NextGate, the leading healthcare technology company for patient and provider identity management, announced today that University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Medicine has gone live with NextGate’s Provider & Organization Registry. UAB Medicine, an academic health center in Birmingham, Alabama, chose NextGate’s software and expertise to automate many manual, time consuming processes in managing the master provider data network. Through this partnership, the NextGate Provider & Organization Registry will equip UAB Medicine with a consolidated, single database to find and maintain information from participating providers across the community, both individuals and organizations.

Maintaining a provider database from more than five different data sources became an administrative burden for UAB Medicine employees. The NextGate Provider & Organization Registry creates an up-to-date “Source of Truth” registry from internal and external sources, significantly increasing the accuracy and simplicity of using provider information.

“Our ability to communicate, drive positive outcomes and bring efficiencies for the UAB community hinges on a strong foundation of provider information.” remarks Brian Bishop, Integration and Operations Manager at UAB. “UAB is eager to leverage NextGate’s provider data management tools to quickly and efficiently store, share and update provider data. Process automation was a driving force in choosing NextGate to partner with UAB in this endeavor.”

NextGate’s Provider & Organization Registry will automate the following processes for UAB Medicine:

  • Data synchronization across financial, clinical and credentialing systems
  • Assignment of UAB Medicine doctor number to physicians
  • Provider matching based on fields unique to UAB Health Medicine data
  • Data consolidation from more than 5 sources of physician data, including Admitting, Attending, Referring and Residents
  • Outbound updates of provider records to connected systems

“We are eager to help UAB Medicine meet their immediate needs of operational and collaboration efficiencies, while at the same time providing the infrastructure to improve analytics, strengthen collaboration and support organizational growth,” adds Andy Aroditis, NextGate Founder and Chief Executive Officer. “The availability of accurate provider data is a major component in the ability to communicate and drive positive experiences for patients, physicians and staff.”

The unique data mapping abilities of the Provider & Organization Registry reconcile and merge duplicate provider records from the disparate provider sources like National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) and credentialing systems. This process eliminates potential errors resulting from manual lookup and data entry, and it returns time to the resources and staff that are tasked with managing provider data. The NextGate solution streamlines data entry and access and delivers accuracy in physician data management.

The NextGate Provider & Organization Registry simplifies the management of the provider enterprise by using two key components, a provider registry and a directory.

  • The Provider Registry is the comprehensive store of information about all providers in a defined region and the services they are authorized to deliver. It aggregates content about entities and individuals from various sources and presents the information in an integrated view.
  • The Provider Directory is an IHE-compliant framework that offers a straightforward, easy-to-query list of only active provider participants. The narrow focus of the Provider Directory simplifies the search for and exchange of relevant provider information.
