What an exciting day for NextGate!  As today’s press release announced, we replaced a major competitor’s EMPI at the Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in the U.K.  In the span of 2 short months we installed our NextGate Multi-Language EMPI, converted nearly 1 million patient records from the previous EMPI, tuned the matching algorithms for British usage, integrated with their multiple systems to aggregate patient data in support of the Trust’s “Patient Centric View” initiatives, and enjoyed some pints and chips along the way.

There are many noteworthy aspects to this project, including:

• matching algorithms require localized tuning; an EMPI designed for the U.S. market does not necessarily meet the requirements of U.K. demographics and their National Health System (NHS) numbering conventions
• the NextGate Multi-Language EMPI is designed to accommodate the requirements of non-U.S. implementations
• the Trust’s Single View Clinical Portal presents a patient’s data including appointments and scheduling, pathology results, radiology reports, PACS images, and clinical correspondence from the multiple systems linked through the EMPI
• an EMPI replacement is absolutely possible without a lot of headaches

In fact, we are involved in a few other EMPI replacement projects both in the U.S. and Europe, as well as new installations.  We are at a tipping point.  NextGate has re-defined the EMPI space with their years of experience in the healthcare and EMPI space, offering proven, flexible, modern indexing and registry technology at a fraction of the traditional expenditure in time and money.
